One long drive later, I’m back from Rose City Comic-Con! Considering that it was the inaugural year of what I assumed was gonna be a pretty small con, I was blown away by the attendance and caliber of artists behind the booths. Also everyone I met was gracious and charming, so- way to go, you guys.
I also got to do a ton of sketches, a bunch of which are featured above. Looking at it now that line above the Rocketeer makes it look like he is stuck in an attic? But that is hilarious so I don’t care.

A couple days ago we took visiting family to Navy Pier, and we got stranded inside due to this horrible storm that hit Chicago after the fireworks.
And while we were waiting for my dad to retrieve the car that was a few blocks away (bless him), I watched this black couple trying to pose for a picture they were taking together. Everyone was looking out at the storm, a lot of people soaking wet, but these two were just making the cutest picture together.

this is the kind of trippy awkwardness i get for trying something new.
i was chatting with willie about how awesome miyazaki’s color pencil story boards would look if they were animated. the natural progression of that idea was, “hey, i should try to make something move with color pencil!”
fast forward 3 hours and you have a genius idea turned into a horrible execution.
a part of me feels guilty for spamming the web with amateur animated gifs. the rest of me is kind of amused by its silliness.
i can just picture my animator friends pinching my cheeks, “aw, look at the little illustrator trying to animate 6 frames of nonsense.”
